Our winegrower
Hilarius Pütz

Our winegrower and winemaker Hilarius Pütz comes from the Mosel wine-growing region in Germany. He has lived and worked in Georgia since 2007.

After completing his apprenticeship as a winegrower, he trained as a technician for viticulture and cellar management in Germany. Before moving to Georgia, he managed large wineries in Germany, Switzerland and Moldova. In addition to that, he managed his own wineries on the German and Luxembourg sides of the Moselle.

His way to Georgia

He came to Georgia in 2007, initially with a consultancy contract for 6 months.
He saw a range of tasks ahead of him there, from the quality-oriented and natural cultivation of vineyards, to the quality-oriented vinification and marketing of these wines.
However, what has always captivated him most is the fact that he might be able to make a modest contribution to improving the image of Georgian wines in the western world.
"There is an undreamt-of potential for wine quality in Georgia. Georgia has the opportunity to play at the very top of the Champions League of the world's wines", he says.

Hilarius Pütz' personal Motto:
“As long as better is possible, good is not good enough!”

In order to put the Georgian wine industry on this path, he initiated the German basic training program for winegrowers (three-year winegrowing/winemaking apprenticeship), which has been approved as a pilot project by the Georgian Ministry of Education and has been in place for many years. This is a significant success, especially for young Georgian winegrowers. Hilarius Pütz has written the corresponding textbooks, which are now widely regarded as standard works on wine education in Georgia.
